ROTA Sen. Dennis James Mendiola on Monday informed his colleagues that he was resigning as a member of the Senate Committees on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, and Judiciary, Government and Law.
During the miscellaneous part of the Senate session, Mendiola said he wants to allow a senator from Tinian to be part of the two committees.
Currently, EAGI and JGL have no members from Tinian.
The senators from Tinian are Jude U. Hofschneider, Karl King-Nabors and Francisco Q. Cruz, who chaired the EAGI committee for many years.
“This is really to allow Tinian a spot [on the committees],” Mendiola said, adding that the committees’ chair, Sen. Celina Babauta of Saipan, agrees that the people of Tinian must be given equal representation.
Mendiola thanked Babauta and the committees’ other members for allowing him to be part of “this great team.”
“I’ve learned a lot, and I will cherish that in my Senate years to come,” said Mendiola who is also a member of the Committees on Fiscal Affairs, Health, Education and Welfare, and Federal Relations
The other members of the EAGI committee are Senate Vice President Donald M. Manglona and Sen. Paul A. Manglona, both from Rota. They are also members of the JGL committee.
Both the EAGI and JGL are chaired by Babauta.
