THE Senate on Wednesday last week adopted three separate resolutions honoring retired nurse Susan de Veyra, 2021 Miss Marianas Savannah Lynn Relox Delos Santos, and U.S. Air Force Capt. Kimberly Hofschneider.
Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider presided over the session with Senate Floor Leader Vinson F. Sablan, Sens. Francisco Q. Cruz, Edith Deleon Guerrero, Victor B. Hocog, Karl R. King-Nabors, and Teresita A. Santos present. Senate Vice President Justo S. Quitugua and Sen. Paul A. Manglona were absent and excused.
Senate Resolution 22-29, authored by Senate President Hofschneider, honors de Veyra for “her steadfast efforts toward the improvement of health care for the residents of the [CNMI] on the occasion of her retirement.”
Born and raised in the Philippines, she moved to Saipan in 1989 and worked as a nurse at the CNMI’s Department of Public Health, now known as the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation, where she “unwaveringly assisted and cared for many patients with medical ailments up until her retirement.”
Exemplary and outstanding
Senate Resolution 22-30, authored by Senate Floor Leader Sablan, honors 2021 Miss Marianas for “her exemplary service and outstanding representation of the [CNMI] during the 60th Miss International Beauty Pageant,” where she made history by being the first Commonwealth pageant queen to finish in the top 15.
A 2015 alumna of Mount Carmel School, Delos Santos graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration-marketing from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is currently pursuing a master of business administration-accounting, while working as a sexual assault response team manager at the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
Selfless service
Senate Resolution 22-31, authored by Sen. King-Nabors, expresses sincere gratitude and pays tribute to U.S. Air Force Capt. Hofschneider for “her selfless service as the Indo-Pacific Command Liaison to the [CNMI] and as the first female Air Force Officer from the island of Tinian serving a historic and vital role in support of U.S. national security interests and the commitment of partnership, presence, and military readiness.”
Hofschneider enlisted in 2004, and was commissioned in 2013 as second lieutenant, later climbing the ranks to lieutenant, then captain, and has been selected for promotion to major this new year.
In December 2021, she was named liaison officer, representing the Joint Forces and the U.S. Department of Defense.
“Captain Hofschneider has raised the bar and shattered the glass ceiling as the first female Air Force officer from the tiny, patriotic island of Tinian serving in her official capacity a historic and vital role in support of national security interests with the commitment of partnership, presence, and military readiness for the United States,” the Senate resolution stated.
The Senate holds a session on Wednesday last week.
