Senate resolution honors longtime business leader

SENATE President Jude U. Hofschneider on Thursday introduced a Senate resolution honoring Marian Aldan-Pierce “for her passionate and devoted contributions to her profession, our community, and the entire Commonwealth.”

An alumna of Meadville Area High School in Pennsylvania and the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, Aldan-Pierce returned to the islands to serve as the secretary to the Marianas delegation for the Congress of Micronesia from 1975 to 1976.

She then worked in the private sector for DFS Saipan Ltd., working her way up the ladder from executive secretary, administrative assistant to the general manager, personnel manager, vice president of human resources, to president of the Saipan division until her retirement in August 2020.

Since the 1980s, Aldan-Pierce has served on various boards, including for the State Employment Training Council, CNMI Council for the Arts, Marianas Public Land Corporation, Department of Public Lands, Northern Marianas College, American Memorial Park Development Advisory Board, Marianas Visitors Authority, the State Workforce Investment Board, YMCA, American Red Cross-CNMI Chapter, San Antonio Youth Center, Mount Carmel School, Northern Marianas Junior Golf League, and D.A.R.E. Program. 

She has likewise served on committees, such as the South Pacific Com Conference Planning Committee, Airport Operations Council Planning Committee, Commemoration ‘95 Committee; and councils to include the Chalan Kanoa Teen Center Advisory Council, CNMI Council for the Humanities, Tipiyeew Advisory Council, and Suquamish Citizens Advisory Council.

Aldan-Pierce also served or currently serves as a member or former director of the InterPacific Fellows Advisory Council, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, Hotel Association of the NMI, Economic Revitalization Task Force, Tourism Task Force, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Commission, and Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Commission.

Moreover, she served as a member of the 3rd Constitutional Convention from May to August 1995, and as the CNMI representative in bilateral talks between the U.S. and Japan in September 2007.

She has training in human resources, leadership, and management.

Aldan-Pierce received various forms of recognition, including Pacific Islands Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Businessperson of the Century in 1999, Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s Business Person of the Year in 1999, the 2000 Guam Business Executive of the Year, 2009 Saipan Rotary Club Citizen of the Year, First Hawaiian Bank and Guam Business Magazine 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award, and 2018 Moodie Davitt Report People of the Year.

“Marian Aldan-Pierce provided admirable and outstanding contributions that benefit not only herself and her family but the entire Commonwealth, which further encourages and inspires others to diligently work hard with devotion in any profession one aspires to pursue,” the Senate resolution reads.

The Senate unanimously adopted S.R. 22-22 on Thursday, May 26.
