Shriners Children’s conduct outreach at CHCC Children’s Clinic

(CHCC) — In collaboration with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation-Children’s Clinic, the Shriners Children’s Hawai’i outreach team provided services at the Children’s Clinic in Saipan on May 2-4, 2022, for children and adolescents (ages 0-18 years), and children with special health care needs.

Mike Nishimoto and Dr. Craig Ono provided services to 103 children during a recent trip to the CNMI as part of Shriners Children's Hawai'i's outreach efforts.

As a result of the outreach clinics, the Shriners Children’s Hawai’i team saw a total of 103 children, of whom 76 were returning patients and 27 were new patients from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. Orthotics services were also provided to children in need, which included fitting for braces to help strengthen or straighten the back, knees, or feet.

Additionally, the team identified and began preparations for patients who needed surgery, as well as scheduled telehealth visits to ensure continuity of care.

CHCC continues to utilize telehealth/telemedicine to enhance and provide services for the children/adolescents in the CNMI, including Tinian and Rota.

The Shriners Children’s outreach team consisted of Dr. Craig Ono, orthopedic physician; Mike Nishimoto, nurse practitioner; Dianna Le, orthotist; and Eric Tsukamoto, outreach coordinator —all have extensive experience providing healthcare for children with congenital and other childhood orthopedic issues resulting from bone, joint, muscle, and sports injuries. During their visit, the Shriners Children’s Hawai’i team worked closely with CHCC pediatricians and program coordinator, Shiella Marie Deray, to ensure the success of the outreach efforts.

For families who want their children to be evaluated or missed their appointment with the Shriners Children’s outreach clinic, a telehealth/telemedicine visit can be arranged. However, it is advisable for families to visit their child’s primary care provider so that a referral can be facilitated.
