Speak-Fishing

I am an avid fishermen. I’d like to think I am good at it. I have managed to keep my family and a few good friends fed, and on rare occasions, made impressions while doing cultural obligations. However, I do not consider myself a professional fisherman – those who can tell you what fish prefer to eat and when.

In all my years of fishing, I have yet to figure what bait fish prefer the most. I figure, they eat if they are hungry; thus, I try as much as I can to go fishing when no one is fishing – less free food in the water. As far as bait goes, I can’t and will not tell you what I do not know.

As far as I am concerned, fishing and politicking are interchangeable. Politicians do exactly what professional fishermen do – speak fish (this is not a typo, r was replaced with a k). They, like professional fishermen, bait their lines with all sorts of baits – improve this, raise that, eliminate those, build where, find how, create when, invent why, and even, a sprinkle of a few greens with facial impressions of dead US presidents – and have set their speak fishing outings to the rhythm of human activities just as some fishermen set their fishing trips to the cycles of the moon.

It is election year. You and I are being lured to nibble at the baits cast our way. The politicians don’t seem to know what we want – we have been fed the same hoopla for years. They are speak fishing and are getting good at it.

Consider yourself a fish in unfamiliar territory. Talk to others who have sampled the baits – and please talk to many, including those in other territories. Gather as much information as you can before you take a bite.

I have faith that you do not want to be fried – many of us have been scaled and gutted since last election and are becoming “in-dangered.” Recently, we have been cashed and gassed out.

The tide has come in and is yet to go out. If you make a decision on who to bite for prior to Election Day, swallow hard – he or she might make you regurgitate later. If, however, you smell a fish, don’t get hooked. Bite the line and move out of the way of the barbed hook.

Speak fishing is cheap but it could cost you and I four years of uncertainty. Look at past seasons and listen carefully! Swim fast!
