State of the Republic Address set on April 25

Toribiong’s second State of the Republic Address is set to be delivered on April 25. The date was reached following a recent leadership meeting with the members of the Olbiil Era Kelulau last week.

“After discussion, it was decided and agreed that the president would deliver his 2010 progress report on April 25,” Toribiong said in his letter to Senate President Mlib Tmetuchl and House Speaker Noah Idechong.

Congress will hold the April regular session starting on April 13.

The April regular session is expected to be busy as the lawmakers are scheduled to tackle the proposed Fiscal Year 2011 budget which will be submitted by May 31.

This is the second time since he assumed office that Toribiong will speak before members of the OEK.

The address will cover the president’s vision to address the many critical challenges Palau faces at home.

In his address Toribiong will also be reporting to the nation the status of the economy and the nation since his installation as the chief executive.

In his first State of the Republic Address in 2009 or three months after he assumed the presidency, Toribiong said the State of the Republic is ” precarious but he is upbeat that under his administration the state of the country ” is on the way to full recovery.”
