Stop throwing trash anywhere

COMMUNITY volunteer Max Aguon is asking the community’s cooperation in keeping the island free of improperly disposed trash.

“Please dispose OF your thrash properly and not to just leave them anywhere,” he added.

He is also urging individuals not to vandalize or break locked public restrooms.

Aguon is also a government employee assigned as the custodian of the newly built public restrooms at Laly 4 beach in Chalan Kanoa, and at the Grotto in Marpi.

On Feb. 28, Aguon reported to the authorities that somebody had broken the Grotto restroom door.

“We are locking it up because we can’t monitor them at night,” he said.

On Sunday, March 5, Aguon and another volunteer, Rolly Quirijero,  the operator of Rolly’s Auto Shop in Susupe, went to the Agingan Point fishing spot in San Antonio to pick up the trash in the area.

“Please avoid leaving your trash, empty water bottles, and cans at Agingan Point,” Aguon said.

On the same day, he went to the Chalan Kanoa cemetery where, he said, “people are still disposing  their trash improperly and leaving trash even near the sign that says ‘no trash here.’ ”

“There are designated trash bins in the area,” he added. “Please dispose your trash responsibly and not just leave them in open areas.”

In related news, Department of Lands and Natural Resources Acting Secretary Sylvan O. Igisomar has rescinded an earlier directive assigning Aguon to the Division of Fish and Wildlife to assist with the monitoring of the Grotto.

Igisomar re-assigned Aguon to the Division of Parks and Recreation.
