THE Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers has announced the completion of another successful community transformation by Tinian Elementary School Student Government Organization and the TES Youth Advisory Panel. With the supervision of three TES staff, the students rehabilitated and repainted the school’s curbs through GCEA’s Adopt-A-Median program to improve visibility and enhance safety on their campus.
Monica Sanchez, the TES teacher who supervised the kids, said the project provided an opportunity for students in the 4th through 6th grade to work together and complete the task as a team-building effort.
“The students showed that they were proud to be a part of the project, and it was an honor for them to assist in making our school beautiful through visible curbs and safety for everyone. The students had fun helping each other even though it was hot,” said Sanchez. Sanchez said that the students collectively agreed that they all learned to work together.
She added, “The students were team players by being active, respectful with one another, coming on time for the days scheduled to paint the median, and were committed until the completion of the project.”
By sharing their experience, Sanchez noted that the Student Government Organization and Youth Advisory Panel students hope to encourage others to adopt curbs and sidewalks around their schools and participate in other upcoming programs.
GCEA thanks the TES students and teachers for volunteering their time to give back to their community. As a result, all TES students will enjoy a safer, more visible pick-up and drop-off experience. GCEA welcomes more schools to join the Adopt-A-Median program and take active roles in improving the safety of students in and around their campuses.

About the Adopt-A-Median program
The Adopt-A-Median program is an integral part of the GCEA’s Marianas Village Pride campaign and the Public Private Partnership Program. GCEA is actively welcoming groups of volunteers to adopt sites in every village in Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. Schools, groups, families, and businesses can adopt, clean, and paint medians, sidewalks, lots, or crosswalks in their villages. GCEA will provide the supplies. For the safety of the students, GCEA recommends that school groups adopt sidewalks and crosswalks around their campuses.
