Toribiong in his email message to Griffiths stated that the businessman could have been a victim of political maneuvering.
“I am not your enemy, being mad at me does not help to bring relief to your grievances. I hope you are not being used by others for political maneuverings in Palau. I think you are. Be smart and do not be used,” he stated.
He asked Griffiths in his letter to reveal the people behind the controversy.
In the letter, Toribiong again denied that he received $200,000 foreign contribution for his presidential election campaign from UKIHL owner Morris Davidson and dismissed it as a ploy to involve him in a controversy between the firm and Griffiths company.
He said that he should not be dragged in the controversy until they have met.
Griffiths in a statement said that his company over the last 12 months has been passing information to the government regarding the illegal activities of Davidson.
Griffiths was in Palau in April and tried to seek an audience with Toribiong. The president however did not meet with him.
Toribiong has earlier thrown his support to the UKIHL, in his letter to Griffiths he said that the businessman can help Palau shed light on the UKIHL.
“I hope you will find time to come to Palau and provide me an opportunity to discuss in more detail of your dealings with Morris and your knowledge of UKIHL,” the president said.
Griffiths stated that the president’s continued support of UKIHL “brings me to only one conclusion that he is inextricably involved with this man.”
He noted that the president has the ultimate authority and can stop and activities of Davidson and UKIHL.
Toribiong branded the matter as “rubbish” but would not order a probe on the matter saying the issue is between Davidson and Griffith.
Griffiths said that Davidson has also duped investors in the Angaur project but if you go to the state “they will not find a blade of grass has been turned.”
Toribiong has also washed his hands off the pending application of UKIHL before the Foreign Investment Board (FIB).
He said he is giving Davidson the benefit of the doubt and has asked him in the past to come to Palau to clear his name.
