Toribiong leads observance of Memorial Day in Peleliu

Toribiong, joined by Palauan veterans who served in the United States Military , U.S. charge d’ affaires Mark Bezner and members of the Air Force Civic Action Team 09-05 laid wreaths at the three memorial sites in Peleliu.

The holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service.Toribiong said it is the first time for the president to hold memorial observance for fallen U.S. soldiers by laying wreaths at three memorial sites.Peleliu is a memorial site for World War II U.S. soldiers.The wreath-laying was held the Orange Beach cementery, Marine Corp and Army 323rd Infantry memorial site at the Bloody Nose Ridge.Peleliu was the site of one of the bloodiest WWII battle between U.S. and Japan in the Pacific War.
