This is the president’s response to the Del. Jonathan Isechal regarding questions on the observance of proper travel protocols.
The president said he is open to the opportunity to discuss the issue of official travel protocols with all the concerned parties to address the confusion.He said that the Executive Branch will be working together with the Legislature regarding the matter.Earlier Palau Ambassador to Japan Minoru questioned Palau officials regarding travel protocols. In a letter to Toribiong Ueki said that there were members of the OEK who includes Sen. Tommy Remengesau who did not observe proper diplomatic protocol by failing to inform the Palau Embassy there of such visits.The supposed meeting was between members of the OEK and members of the Palau Parliamentary League of Japanese Diet. Isechal, who was part of the delegation in Japan responded by saying that members of Congress composing of Sen. Tommy Remengesau , Del. Celestine Yangilmau and him were invited to attend the Japan –Palau Parliamentary Friendship League meeting by Takeshi Kamimoto .Isechal said they did not asked to be invited and is currently unaware of a written policy that requires the legislative and the judicial branches of government to make all travel arrangements to other nations through the Ministry of State.He however said in the letter that they are willing to discuss the travel protocols with the Executive Branch.
