Tourists rise to 85 percent in July

Based on the PVA monthly report, July has a total of 10,008 arrivals compared to 5, 385 in July 2009.

PVA says this significant increase was due to Micronesia Executive Summit held in Palau in July 2010 and also the Micro Game in beginning of August.

Many visitors from Micronesia and other Pacific Regions travelled to the Island to attend the Summit and Micro Games started in August 1 to 10, 2010.

Taiwan shows large increase of 3,348 compared to 1, 254 in July 2009. This increase is due to China Airlines extra flights and Continental Charter-Taipei.

Japan also increased its arrivals to 2, 2987 from 1,666 on the same period of last year due to Japan Charter Schedule flights.

Meanwhile Korea has ended the month with an increase of 640 arrivals compared to same month last year. From 1,186 in July 2009 to 1, 826 in July 2010.

North America ended the month with an increase of 67 arrivals compared to same month last year.The number of arrivals in July 2010 is 511 to 444 arrivals in July 2009.

Europe has soared to 39 arrivals compared to same month last year. With a total of 128 arrivals in July 2009 to 167 arrivals in July 2010.

The Philippines has also shown an increase of 34 percent. From 66 arrivals in July 2009 to 89 in July 2010.

July posted the largest number of tourists in the first semester of the year and also in the previous year.
