Tropical Depression Mawar moving north-northwest

BASED on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, a typhoon watch remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan.

As of 10 p.m. Saturday, Tropical Depression Mawar was located

about 520 miles south-southeast of Guam;

about 545 miles south-southeast of Rota;

about 585 miles south-southeast of Tinian; and

about 590 miles south-southeast of Saipan.

The center of Tropical Depression Mawar was located near latitude 5.7 degrees north and longitude 149.2 degrees east. It was moving north-northwest at 5 mph, and was expected to maintain this general course and speed over the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 35 mph. Mawar is forecast to intensify through Sunday.

Because of the anticipated threat of Tropical Depression Mawar, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has maintained Typhoon Condition III for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Typhoon Condition III means that damaging winds of 39 mph or more are possible Monday, and typhoon force winds of 74 mph or greater are possible Monday night through Wednesday.
