The accident occurred on Wednesday at about 2 p.m. The truck’s breaks allegedly malfunctioned as the truck was making a turn into Ngebuked; and the driver its control and it run up the side of the road and fell on its side. The truck was carrying at least five cubic yards of concrete.
Witnesses at the seen said that the truck was traveling a little too fast and would have not made the turn even if the alleged damaged breaks were in perfect working order.
“The truck should have traveled at a maximum speed of 5 miles per hour in order to safely make the turn,” said a Daewoo official at the seen yesterday. “The slow rate of speed could have allowed the driver to ‘down-shift’, which would have further slowed the truck and would have prevented the accident.”
According the witnesses the driver suffered head and neck injuries and was transported to the hospital soon after the accident.
Daewoo officials were at the scene of the accident yesterday to assess the road damages. The truck, according to the Daewoo officials, with its load, had caused cracks, peeling and dents to the road when it fell on its side. The full extent of the damages will be known as soon as the truck is removed. As of 1 p.m. yesterday, the truck – contents solidified – had not been moved. Employees of Hawaiian Rock have been posted at the scene of the accident to direct traffic and to prevent the truck from vandals.
