CHIEF Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the District Court for the NMI has sentenced two drug defendants separately.
At a hearing on Aug. 20, she sentenced Sharee Diaz Joyner to serve 30 months or 2.5 years in prison.
After serving her sentence she will be placed on four years of supervised release. In addition, she will perform 100 hours of community service, and pay a $100 assessment fee.
As for Miguelito “Tito” Palacios Paez, Judge Manglona sentenced him on Aug. 17 to a prison term of 70 months or 5.3 years.
Paez will be placed on five years of supervised release upon completely serving his sentence. He will also perform 100 hours of community service and pay a $100 assessment fee.
Joyner and Paez both pled guilty in March 2021.
On Jan. 20, 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office charged Joyner with one count of conspiracy to possess over 5 grams of methamphetamine or ice with the intent to distribute.
Paez, for his part, was charged with one count of attempt to possess over 50 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
The indictment stated that Paez attempted to possess and distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine on or about Oct. 22, 2020.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Garth Backe prosecuted the cases.
Joyner’s court-appointed counsel was Colin Thompson while Paez’s court-appointed counsel was Steve Pixley.
