Vincent Terlaje arrested for assault and battery

VINCENT Q. Terlaje, 41 was arrested for a pushing and punching another man who was with the defendant’s girlfriend in the bedroom.

Terlaje was charged with disturbing the peace, and assault and battery.

Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan at a bail hearing on Wednesday imposed a $5,000 cash bail on the defendant who was represented by the Public Defender’s Office while Assistant Attorney General Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

Judge Bogdan remanded Terlaje  to the custody of the Department of Corrections. The defendant was ordered to return to court on Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. for preliminary hearing and on Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. for arraignment.

According to the complaint of probable cause in support of the issuance of an arrest warrant, on Dec. 3, 2020, around 1:17 a.m., police responded to a disturbing the peace incident at an apartment in Koblerville.

Terlaje told police that when he arrived home, he noticed that the front door was open. He said he went inside the house and saw that his bedroom was closed and locked.

Terlaje said he pounded on the door and told his girlfriend to open it. He said his girlfriend told him to hold on. When she opened the door, Terlaje said he saw another man sitting on the bed.

Terlaje told the man to get out. He  then shoved the man to the floor.

Terlaje’s girlfriend said the defendant and the other man started punching each other.

She said the man eventually put Terlaje in a chokehold “to calm him down.”

A female neighbor — the other man’s aunt —  later separated the two men.
