‘Volunteerism, humility and generosity’

AMERICAN Red Cross-NMI Chapter Chairwoman Natalie Mable Ayuyu-Glenn and Vice Chair Dr. Bobby Cruz emphasized the volunteerism, humility and generosity of board member Tayna Belyeu-Camacho, executive director John Hirsh and Tan Holdings Corp. President and CEO Jerry Tan.

The three are this year’s Humanitarian Leadership awardees.

Tan and Hirsh received the award during the NMI chapter’s Red Gala on Saturday evening at Kensington Hotel. Receiving the award for Belyeu-Camacho, who was off-island, was her godson, Bryton Cabrera.

Cruz said the Humanitarian Leadership Award is “bestowed upon individuals who have exemplified significant governance, character, intentionality, drive, and innovation in building coalitions to prevent and alleviate human suffering and promote healing in the face of tragedy and devastation.”

Ayuyu-Glenn said Belyeu-Camacho, Hirsh and Tan “have demonstrated exceptional dedication to protecting life and health and ensuring respect for humankind in both word and in deed.”

Ayuyu-Glenn added, “Their leadership qualities have promoted mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, and peace that have positively impacted the welfare of the Marianas.”

Cruz said Belyeu-Camacho’s volunteerism and leadership bolstered the work of the Red Cross through some of the most challenging times in recent history. “She’s a high caliber leader with a humble and warm disposition, he said.

Ayuyu-Glen said Hirsh is “a humble unifier who is driven by the cause and not the limelight.”

He has served at the helm of the Red Cross Marianas chapter for two decades now, and is “a coalition builder and leader as we navigated through the hardships of the past decade.”

“His leadership has truly been instrumental in supporting the recovery in the CNMI through several natural disasters,” she said.

Cruz said Tan’s desire to promote the welfare of the people of the CNMI is without match.

Tan’s generosity, Cruz added, “extends far beyond his many financial contributions to notable life-giving causes, especially the Red Cross. It also is evident in his presence and willingness to help with his hands.”

Cruz said Tan “is a friendly soul who can be found volunteering or leading many boards, walking the pathway, or playing soccer. Despite his demanding schedule, he continues to prioritize volunteerism and the people of the CNMI.”

Ayuyu-Glenn added that “we would be remiss if we did not recognize our ARC volunteers. These selfless and humble human beings are the backbone of the services we provide and whose roles are central to the success of the organization. These heroes make the real work of the Red Cross possible.”
