Warning: Dangerous rip currents

THE CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point issued a special marine advisory late Monday afternoon, regarding the high risk of dangerous rip currents through Tuesday morning.

“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” the EOC stated.

EOC is reminding the general public to stay out of the water along the east facing reefs of Tinian and Saipan.

“Elsewhere, swim near a life guard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shore line. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help,” EOC stated.

The special marine advisory was based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI EOC State Warning Point.
