PRCS said in the year 2007 there were 702 who donated blood and that according to the Belau National Hospital blood bank data the top indication for blood transfusion is kidney failure followed by dysfunctional uterine bleeding, cancer, peptic ulcer disease and anemia in pregnancy.The celebrations was held on June 13, at the entrance lobby of the hospital and during the ceremony certificate of appreciations were handed out to the top ten blood donors and the companies and business organizations which have conducted blood drives within their workplaces and establishments.Recipients of the top ten blood donors are Samuel Sanders, Ngoriakle Olmetelei, Jay Skilang, Fraulein Rengiil, Tirso Donald, Kingsang Clifford, Joe Aitaro, Meyar Mikel, Michael Fox and Harley Fletcher.Organizations awarded for their support to PRCS blood drives were Palau Pacific Resort(PPR), Palau Royal Resort, Airai View Hotel, Papago International Resort, Socio Micronesia Inc.., The Filipino Community in Palau (TFCP), Osiaol Catholic Church and the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs.The World Blood Donor Day is an annual event that highlights the role blood donors play in saving the lives and improving the health of millions and creates awareness about the availability, safety and appropriate use of blood and blood products.In a press statement, the society’s directors, members, staff, volunteers and in particular its blood donor committee and the blood transfusion services of the Ministry of Health are thanking the donors and companies who supported the celebration.
