Yano’s confirmation was endorsed by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and State Relations.
According to the committee report, Yano’s exemplary credentials “will serve him well in fulfilling his duties as Minister of State.”
“Your committee finds that Dr. Yano bears the title Ngirachitei , the highest ranking chief of Oikull, Airai. This is an evidence of an individual who is humble, responsible, respected, active member of the community and one with excellent leadership skills,” the report said.
It added that these are the characteristics that are needed of an effective and efficient state minister.
The committee in its report also added that during the confirmation hearing, Yano said he is willing to work with President Johnson Toribiong and colleagues in the Ministry of State and is also committed to good and transparent management.
Yano was nominated by President Johnson Toribiong to fill in the Ministry of States’s post after the president fired State Minister Sandra Pierantozzi.
Yano served as Health Minister under former President Tommy Remengesau’s administration.
Yano during the hearing has vowed to devote his time fully to the Ministry.
The oath taking ceremony was held at the Capitol.
