Yap extends trochus harvest season again

The extension is for a week and half or from July 25 to Aug. 8, 2011.

The purpose of re-extending the open season for the harvest was because the harvest quota of 150 tons assigned for Yap Main Island has yet to be collected by the fishermen.

Since the opening for the harvesting of trochus, the number of trochus collected in Yap Main Island has reached a quota of a little over 78 tons compared to the 150 tons assigned for the Main Island.

On July 4, 2011, Anefal issued a proclamation, which authorized an open season for harvesting trochus on the reefs of Yap Main Island, Ulithi Atoll, Woleai Atoll, Feraulap Atoll and Eauripik Atoll.

The declared open season for trochus harvest in Yap Main Island and the four atolls went into effect at 6 a.m. on July 11.
