Yap museum to open on Dec. 7

The event is open to the public and there is no entrance fee.  The opening will celebrate the construction of a men’s house, meeting house, two stone platforms and a demonstrative koyeng or small shelter.

Traditional Yapese artifacts will be on display as well as stone money.  The opening will include two traditional Yapese dances and speeches from Yap state officials as well as members of the Yap Living History Museum Board.

The museum’s purpose is to educate the public about the significance of traditional culture and the history of Yap islands, as well as to engage the educational curricula of pre-school through college students through collecting, preserving and displaying of scientific, cultural, historical artifacts and information.
