Yap reports 851 cases of dengue fever

As of Dec. 15, 2011, there had been:

• 851 total cases

• 700 cases on Yap Island

• 74 cases on Ulithi Atoll

• 73 cases on Fais

• 2 cases on Eauripik Island

• 2 cases on Woleai Atoll

•153 admissions to Yap State Hospital

• 2 deaths from  dengue type 2 confirmed.

The symptoms of dengue are high fever, body ache, joint pain, and sometimes pain behind the eyes, diarrhea and vomiting.

As of this announcement, any outpatient testing and treatment for suspected dengue cases is free.

Anyone with these symptoms is encouraged to seek medical attention as early as possible.
