THE NMI’S Carol Lee and the rest of Pacific Oceania team currently lead the Asia/Oceania Group II of the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge after she won her singles and doubles matches on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In the women’s singles event, Lee showcased her skills against Singapore’s Sue Yan Tan to easily win the match, 6-2, 6-1.
Lee and Patricia Apisah of Papua New Guinea then bested Singapore’s Vickie IP Wai Kei and Sue Yan Tan, 6-4, 6-1.
In the singles, so far, Lee remains unscathed. On Monday, she defeated Hong Kong’s Ho Ching Wu 6-4, 6-3; on Tuesday, she outlasted Chinese-Taipei’s Pei-Chi Lee, 7-5, 7-5; and on Thursday, she overwhelmed Guam’s Fremont Gibson, 6-1, 6-0.
“I am honored to be part of the Pacific Oceania team and be able to represent [the NMI] and other Pacific Islands as well,” Lee said. “It feels great to be able to reunite and compete with different athletes from different islands. It’s always exciting to see my teammates again around Billie Jean King Cup time.”
Lee added, “So far, we have been going strong. We have Pakistan tomorrow. We have won against some strong countries such as Chinese-Taipei and Hong Kong. If we win against Pakistan tomorrow, we will finish first in our pool.”
Lee said she is “looking forward to getting promoted to Group 1 in the end. We have many talented players and a strong spirit of wanting to be better.”
