The University of Guam Tritons baseball team members pose for a photo with Saipan Baseball League President Jay Santos and Tan Holdings executives Catherine Attao-Toves and Alex Sablan at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.
DUE to the rainy weather, the friendship games set for Tuesday and Wednesday between the Saipan Baseball League and the University of Guam had been canceled.
But SBL President Jay Santos remains hopeful that they can still play ball before the UOG Tritons return to Guam.
“We’re doing everything we can to accommodate the Tritons before they head back to Guam on Tuesday,” Santos said. “We’re hoping to give them at least four games while they’re here.”
Based on an updated schedule, the UOG Tritons would play against the SBL All Stars on Thursday, July 27; against the Cardinals today, Friday, July 28; against the Junior Nationals on Saturday, July 29; and against the SBL All Stars, Monday. All games will start at 6:30 p.m. if the weather permits.
While here, the UOG Tritons will also host three clinics. The first will be held today, Friday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 16 to 21; followed by another clinic on Saturday at 9 a.m. for the U12 age group; and another at 12 p.m. for the U15 age group.
“It’s a big part of why UOG is here,” said Santos, referring to the clinics. “This is not going to be a one-and-done thing.”
He said SBL and UOG are also discussing plans for the Tritons to come to the island twice a year during spring training for one or two weeks.
On Thursday, Tan Holdings hosted lunch for the UOG Tritons at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.
“Tan Holdings has been a vital part in assisting SBL and bringing baseball back to the island,” Santos said. “We are thankful to Jerry Tan, Alex Sablan, Catherine Attao-Toves and Merlie Tolentino,” he added.
