THE 6JMS Drunk Dragons successfully defended their A Division championship in the Saipan Electronic Darts Association League by outshooting the 6JMS Thunder Darts 9-8 on Monday at the 6JMS Sports Bar.
It was a true finale as it came down to the wire to determine the winner of the Bud Light Cup.
In the opening Partners Crazy Cricket match, the Drunken Dragons seized control as Tony “The Tiger” Castro and Ronald “Chu Papi” Doria bested Thunder Darts’ Gaius “Relaks” Gille and June “Viper” Orencia.
In the second game, the Thunder Darts’ Bobby “Underdog” De Leon and Russ Cruz defeated Kenneth “Kenpachi” Kaneshi and Gigi “Badong” Gatmaitan for the even split 1-1.
Neither team could gain the upper hand in the Singles 501 Double In/Double Out match.
Gille and Cruz won their one-on-one exchange for Thunder Darts while Castro and Raymond “Yatz” Naluz collected the other two wins for a 3-3 deadlock.
The seesaw battle continued in the next two duo matches — Partners Regular Cricket and Partners 701 — followed by the Singles Regular Cricket match and Partners Half-It.
In all four matches, the wins were evenly distributed between the two teams who were tied 8-8 before the final and deciding match.
In the Team 1001 Cherry In/Double Out match, both teams were unable to gain the upper hand, but Drunken Dragons Castro, Naluz, Kaneshi and Doria played with more precision and consistency and eventually came out victorious over the Thunder Darts’ De Leon, Gille, Cruz and Orencia.
The Drunken Dragons won the overall match 9-8 and took home their second Bud Light Cup in a row.
The Drunken Dragons were the #1 seed and had to eliminate Tambayan 101 Proofers in the semifinals, 9-4, to reach the championship.
For their part, the Thunder Darts, seeded #2, took down the 6JMS Mafia 9-5 to enter the finals.
