Dela Cruz, Tebuteb receive Oceania Athletics awards

RUN Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz Jr. and Northern Marianas Athletics President Ramon “Ray” Tebuteb were among the award winners and merit award recipients of the Oceania Athletics Association Congress in Nadi, Fiji on May 17.

“I was surprised and shocked. I didn’t even know I was in contention for it,” said Dela Cruz. “It means a great deal knowing that a prestigious organization like the OAA recognizes the hard work of, not just me, but what the Northern Marianas Athletics family puts into the sport.”

Dela Cruz said the award is not just for his accomplishments, but also for everything that the NMA has instilled in him.

“It’s because of them that I am what I am now in athletics,” he added. “It’s a testament to this amazing organization. I am ecstatic also that [NMA General Secretary] Robin [Sapong] has been re-elected president of Oceania Athletics and [NMA] President Ray [Tebuteb’s] hard work and dedication were also recognized.”

Dela Cruz added, “Athletics is in great hands — Robin and Ray’s passion and dedication are immeasurable. People have no idea about the amount of hard work and dedication that these two put into athletics. We are recognized internationally, and that is a testament to Robin and Ray’s leadership as well as to the hard-work of the personnel from the board members down to the volunteers, coaches, athletes and officials. It shows in the hard work they put into setting the stage not only for local events but for international competitions as well.”

According to Dela Cruz, “Teamwork is the backbone of our organization and with that everyone flourishes in our sport and excel.”
