THE Rendezvous IT&E Destroyers are hanging onto the second-place spot in the team standings of the Tuesday division of the 2023 SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League with a total of 22 wins, following their victory against Black 8 Rack n Roll, 7-6, Tuesday at the Rendezvous Restaurant, Saipan Vegas.
After splitting the opening Singles 8-Ball match, the Destroyers seized control as Roman Rodriguez and Rogel Caruana, along with Rolly Villanueva and RJ Mascariñas, swept the Partners 8-Ball match for a two-point advantage, 4-2.
In the second Singles match, the Destroyers failed to maintain efficiency as Rack n Roll turned the tables with their own two-win sweep to tie the game, 6-6.
But the Destroyers recovered in the third and final Partners match with Rodriguez and Caruana besting Rack n Roll’s Chris Camacho and Joe Villagomez to clinch the win, 7-6.
A battle of shooters
For their part, the Black 8 Shooters staged a mid-game rally to slip past the Lucky 8Shooter, 7-6.
The Lucky 8Shooter started strong with a 3-1 run in the opening match, but the Black 8 Shooters bounced back with a four-win sweep in the second individual match to grab the lead, 6-4.
After splitting the Partners 8-Ball match, the Black 8 Shooters secured the early win even as the Lucky 8Shooter bagged the final Partners 8-Ball match before settling for defeat, 6-7.
The Black 8 Ideal Signs Rustlers also joined the winner’s circle by defeating the Black 8 Slayers, 8-5.
