GCA 2 leads girls middle school volleyball

GRACE Christian Academy 2 is currently the top team in the Public School System Athletic Programs Girls Middle School Volleyball League after bagging three wins at the Marianas High School gym.

The GCA 2 Eagles are Azzy Fatialofa, Beatrice Fabre, Masofia Gomez, Matty Angeles, Vaniqa Torres, Ana Villagomez, Llyanna Jairah Libut, Nevaeh Camacho and Miley Mafnas.

The volleyball league kicked off on Jan. 18 with GCA 2 outplaying Saipan International School 1, 21-11, 21-6.

On Monday, GCA 2 faced  Hopwood Middle School 1. In the first set, GCA fully utilized the three-touch strategy to set up the spike finish and left HOP 1 in the dust 21-6.

But in the second half, HOP 1 played as if it’s a different team. The Hilitais’ hustle and persistency to keep the ball alive paid off as they broke through GCA 2’s defense.

However, during the final few possessions, the Eagles managed to deliver the decisive blows to soar to victory, edging HOP 1, 21-19, and earning their second straight win of the season.

On Tuesday, GCA 2 went mano a mano with Francisco M. Sablan Middle School.

Both teams seemed evenly matched as a few exchanges were made at the start of each set. However, when it was time to step up, it was GCA 2 that delivered critical finishes to bring down FMS in two sets 21-14, 21-16.

Trailing behind GCA 2 are its sister team GCA 1 and Tanapag Middle School 2 with two wins each.

GCA 1 has so far trounced TMS 2, 21-10, 21-6; and Dandan Middle School, 21-9, 21-5.

TMS 2, for its part, powered past DMS 4-21, 21-7, 15-8, and defeated Mount Carmel School 1, 21-15, 21-5.
