GRACE Christian Academy defeated Tinian 21-12, 21-14 Saturday in the boys middle school volleyball championship at the Koblerville gym.
In the first set of the title match, GCA quickly established control as Joseph Pangelinan, Seth Balakrishna and Ethan Quichocho led their team’s offensive. After successfully receiving, the Eagles would set up the ball, utilizing all three touches to end with a powerful spike by Balakrishna.
However, GCA also committed errors due to failed communication and untimely returns which allowed Tinian to stage a comeback and cut the Eagles’ lead.
But GCA remained cool-headed and eventually worked their way back to the game to bag the first set, 21-12.
In the second set, Tinian aimed for a comeback and had a strong start, but it was not enough to take down the favored GCA.
GCA’s skills were unmatched as the Eagles continued to unleash spike finishes. Although Tinian was able to withstand half of the assault, it eventually wore them down as GCA cruised to a second set and match victory, 21-14.
Before the championship match, GCA outplayed Saipan International School 21-12 while Tinian bested Saipan Community School 21-15 and outlasted Hopwood Middle School 21-15.
