HOPWOOD Middle School currently leads the girls middle school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League after securing their third consecutive win by outplaying Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 8-2, on Tuesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
It was FMS that drew first blood as they quickly went for the kill and succeeded with Selena Atalig finding the back of the net just a minute into the game.
But HMS gradually turned the tide with Yelynn Ha scoring her team’s first goal at the 14th minute mark while Alyssa Borlongan followed up four minutes later. Ha then delivered her second goal at the 20th minute mark to give HMS a 3-1 lead by halftime.
Their lead continued to grow in the second half as HMS remained aggressive and productive, scoring three straight goals — two from Borlongan and one from Kaye Costales.
FMS tried to stop the bleeding with Atalig’s second goal of the game at the 44th minute mark, but HMS’ Borlongan and Costales replied with their own goals to seal the deal, 8-2.
Tanapag vs Dandan
Right behind HMS in the standings, Tanapag Middle School bagged their second win of the season by edging Dandan Middle School, 3-2.
In the first half, TMS broke through the line of defense after 15 minutes of play with Xyriel Pascual scoring. Six minutes later, she delivered another goal for a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, another goal was added by TMS’ Hailey Benavente.
DMS finally got out of the gutter late in the game with two straight makes by Jahsmin Ramon, but they did not have enough time to equalize and had to settle for defeat, 2-3.
