Just Chillin’, Rustlers win SBA division titles

SCS Just Chillin’ and the Ideal Signs JC Rustlers won the Budweiser Cup in their respective divisions of the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League.

In the Thursday Division, SCS Just Chillin’ bested the VFW IT&E Homeboyz, 9-7.

Just Chillin’ were on a mission in the race to nine wins as Jerry Tiu and Rowel “Cobra” Mariano, along with Ken Chen and Toto Bigcas, swept the opening Partners 8-Ball game for a 2-0 lead.

The Homeboyz were not going down without a fight, however, as they retaliated in the one-on-one action with Nolan Cultura, Cesar Sangalang and Jeff Garcia on the frontline for a 3-1 run to even the match score, 3-3.

The Homeboyz continued to ride the momentum as they swept the second Partners 8-Ball game to seize the lead for the first time, but Just Chillin’ notched a 3-1 run in the following Singles 8-Ball game for the second deadlock of the match, 6-6.

The third Singles 8-Ball was the deciding game of the match. Just Chillin’s  Tiu beat Sangalang of the Homeboyz while Homeboy Cultura triumphed over Just Chillin’s Mariano.

Chen and Bigcas then secured the remaining two rounds which was what Just Chillin’ needed to lock in the win and bring home the Budweiser Cup.

Tuesday match

The Ideal Signs JC Rustlers earned their second Budweiser Cup  after edging 9 Eleven B.E. Skeptron, 9-8, in the Tuesday Division finals.

Skeptron controlled the early part of the match with Mark Ignacio and Dante Pumihik  winning the Partners 8-Ball game which they followed up with a 2-1 run.

But the Rustlers  fought back in the second set of the partners and single games as they allowed Skeptron one win only while the Rustlers collected three to even the score, 4-4.

The Rustlers kept the pressure going by winning three of four games in the third set to lead 7-5.

Skeptron still had some fight left in them as Arlon Buensalida and Mark Ignacio paired up to bag the fourth Partners 8-Ball game while Buensalida  won the first round of the fourth Singles 8-Ball game. Team mate Pumihik then scored a win to tie the game once more, 8-8.

But in the final Partners 8-Ball game, it was Tui and Chester Hamoy who reigned supreme over Jess Farinas and Buensalida to clinch the match for the Rustlers, 9-8, and win the championship.
