KAGMAN High School is still the team to beat in the men’s division of the 2020-2021 Public School System Interscholastic Outrigger Race series after the Ayuyus topped the third event on Saturday at Kilili Beach.
In the 1000m category, KHS dominated the preliminaries as the Ayuyus cruised through each turn with ease to gain the upper hand. The team was the first to complete the course with a finish time of 00:06:18.870 to obtain five points.
Saipan Southern High School came in second with a time of 00:06:30.440, good enough for three points while Marianas High School, which received a point, was third with a time of 00:06:57.810.
KHS continued to deliver as the Ayuyus topped the final round. More of the same was seen from the team’s performance as KHS crossed the finish line with a time of 00:06:21.440 to earn another five points.
The SSHS Manta Rays had a tough battle and had to settle for second place with a time of 00:06:35.000 to obtain three points.
The MHS Dolphins clocked at 00:06:38.400 to finish third which was worth one point.
In the 500m category, the spotlight was still focused on KHS as the Ayuyus flourished in the preliminary and final rounds.
KHS bagged first place in the prelims with a finish time of 00:02:48.320 for five points beating SSHS (00:03:00.710 for three points) and MHS (00:03:04.080 for one point).
KHS struggled during the second round but still managed to finish first with a time of 00:02:58.850 followed by SSHS (00:03:04.230) and MHS (00:03:08.170).
After three weeks of competition, the young men of KHS lead with 45 points followed by SSHS with 21 and MHS with 15.
Women’s division
The MHS Dolphins, for their part, are numero uno in the women’s division.
In the 1000m category, MHS snagged first place in both rounds with a time of 00:07:10.570 in the prelims and 00:07:12.420 in the finals for a total of 10 points.
KHS was second place in the prelims with a finish time of 00:07:24.640 worth three points, beating SSHS (00:07:28.090) which received one point.
However, in the finals, SSHS placed second with a time of 00:07:23.460 for three points, edging KHS (00:07:26.410) which collected one point.
MHS maintained efficiency in the 500m category as the Dolphins claimed first place in the prelims with a time of 00:03:26.720, beating KHS (00:03:29.020) and SSHS (00:03:34.210).
In the finals, however, KHS was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 00:03:33.420 while MHS (00:03:36.070) had to settle for second place. SSHS (00:03:43.700) came in third.
Overall, MHS is still in first place with 39 points while KHS is second with 27 points and SSHS is third with 15.
