Kagman, Saipan Southern claim outrigger titles

KAGMAN High School and Saipan Southern High School shared the spotlight in the finale of the Public School System Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series on Saturday at Kilili Beach.

In the women’s 500m race, SSHS finished first with 32 points. KHS settled for second place with 30 points while MHS came in third with 10 points.

in the 1000m event, the points accumulated by KHS gave them a grand total of 65 points — and the women’s division trophy.

SSHS took second place with a total of 61 points while MHS was third with 27 points.

Coed

KHS shined even brighter in the coed division.

In the 1000m event, they notched a perfect 20-point performance. Adding their previous race scores of 6 and 8, gave them a total score of 34 points.

SSHS settled for second place with 30 points while MHS was third  with 8 points.

KHS solidified their coed dominance by  topping the 500m as well.

Although SSHS finished first in the preliminary round, it was KHS that ruled the final race with a total of 36 points.

SSHS was second with 28 points and MHS was third with 8 points.

KHS’ wins in both races gave them overall first place with 70 points  followed by SSHS with 58 and MHS with 16.

Men’s

In the men’s division, SSHS powered through to clinch the title.

Their endurance could not be matched as they led the 1000m race in both heats for a perfect 20-point  run. Adding the 16 points they garnered from two previous races, they bagged a total of 36 points. KHS came in second with 28 points and MHS was third with 8 points.

KHS and SSHS split the 500m preliminary and final rounds with 16 points each, but Kagman’s 18 points from the previous races gave them the top spot.

SSHS shadowed behind with 30 points while MHS was third with 8 points.

SSHS’ overall performance throughout the series earned them the men’s division title with a total of 71 points. Kagman was second with 65 points and MHS was third with 16 points.
