LAKAY and Blue Hauz bagged separate wins in their respective divisions of the Saipan Centennial Lions Club Basketball League on Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
In the Open Division, Lakay’s second half performance led to a convincing double-digit victory against 670 Gravity, 83-68.
The first half was evenly matched as both teams excelled offensively.
Lakay’s Gant carried his team in the opening quarter with eight points as they took the lead, 21-19.
However, in the second half, 670 Gravity equalized with a steady run that included points made from beyond the arc. Solis started the bombardment with two consecutive three-pointers while Torres mirrored his team mate’s output with two triples of his own as 670 Gravity snatched the lead 39-38.
But 670 Gravity was unable to stay consistent during the second half, allowing Lakay to pull away.
The duo of Ong and Gant orchestrated the Lakay offense with a combined seven points while the rest of the team chipped in their share to keep the momentum burning for a double-digit lead, 60-50.
Even though 670 Gravity managed to pull themselves out of the gutter in the final quarter, they failed to stop Lakay’s offense.
Ong continued to deliver with eight points while Jandoc found his rhythm late in the game to contribute six points as Lakay handed 670 Gravity their second loss, 83-68.
Blue Hauz vs NAPA
Blue Hauz joined the winner’s circle by taking down NAPA 85-77 in the Masters Division.
NAPA started strong and controlled the first half of the game thanks to the consistency of Montano, De Guzman and Abuy who kept their team at a safe distance throughout the first two quarters with a 47-40 lead by halftime.
However, fatigue started to play a huge factor for NAPA allowing Blue Hauz to take over the driver’s seat.
Blue Hauz’s Esdrelon coordinated the rally as the point guard and constantly fed John and Edwin Santos inside the paint while Esdrelon and Diaz fired from long range for three-point highlights to give their team an easy 85-77 victory.
