Leowell Cristobal sets new weightlifting personal record

LEOWELL Cristobal continues to progress in the world of weightlifting as he recorded another personal best on Saturday, March 11, at the Crestview Bar Slam weightlifting meet in Crestview, Florida.

A 2022 Pacific Mini Games silver medalist, Cristobal competed in the open men’s 67kg weight class.

The snatch was the toughest portion for the CNMI athlete. He started with a successful 93kg and then missed his second attempt of 98kg but recovered with a third attempt of 100kg.

In the clean & jerk, he upped his game by lifting 128kg before pushing through to 135kg and then setting a new personal record of 140kg.

He set another new personal record by lifting a total of 240kg.

“Overall, I’m pretty happy with my performance,” he told Variety. “I’m progressing in the right direction.”

He said he will remain “consistent in my lifting, prioritizing my nutrition and recovery. Both my coach, Jackie Black, and [fellow CNMI weightlifter] Angel San Nicholas have been very helpful, and I reach out to them whenever I have questions.”

Cristobal said his goal going into the Florida event was to get more competition experience and to see where he stood to better prepare himself for the U.S. nationals and this year’s Micro Games.

Cristobal said he would also want to greet his mom and dad a happy advanced 30th anniversary.
