LILY Bloom Muldoon, an ER doctor, was convinced by friends on Friday to join the first ever NMI Women’s Run 2021. She decided to take on the challenge and ended up dominating the event, crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 00:43:42 at American Memorial Park on Saturday.
One-hundred and five women participated in the 10k race which started at American Memorial Park in the Hyatt area, then proceeded to the G4S Security Office in Oleai before heading back to American Memorial Park.
“My friends yesterday [Friday] convinced me that I should run, because I actually had a shift at 8 a.m. and they said if I run fast enough, I would be able to get to my shift on time,” Muldoon said.
She was able to set a great pace to stay ahead of the competition.
When asked how she felt about winning the race, Muldoon said, “I think it was great. Because of this out-and-back course, when I was running back I got to pass every single runner and we got to cheer each other for each other and give hi-fives — it felt awesome.”
Muldoon was also grateful for an event dedicated to women. “It was great. I love running with women. It was a great atmosphere. Women were so supportive, it felt really good. It makes me really proud of women. I felt like there were women of all shapes, sizes and ages out there who were just trying their best and it felt good to have camaraderie with everyone…. It doesn’t matter how fast you run.”
Muldoon is not a novice to the running scene as she participated in the Tagaman Triathlon in 2019.
Placing second in the NMI Women’s Run was Noriko Jim who clocked in at 00:44:27 followed by Akiko Miller in third place with a time of 00:46:49.
The rest of the top 10 were Kaithlyn Chavez (00:47:57), Jenny Chhea (00:49:18), Sarka Glajchova (00:49:58), Anastasia Inos (00:50:03), Denise Myers (00:51:41), Emma Pang (00:51:51) and Katrina Obsivanova (00:52:38).
The results of the team event will be announced in the next edition of Variety.
As for the virtual events of the NMI Women’s Run, they are still ongoing until March 31 and they include Men’s and Women’s 10k, 5km, Male/Female 10k U18, 5km U18 and 4x5km Relay.
