12 complete BANMI coaching clinic

The 12 participants, most of whom haven’t tried coaching a basketball team before received their certificates during a simple presentation ceremony at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room last Tuesday.

They are Felicia Brel, Vanessa Mobel, Lerins Tamtreng, Tyrone Omar, Dominic Joseph Omar Tudela, Sylvan Luis P. Rangamar, Ron Olopai, Epi Cabrera, Timothy Williams, Gabriel Camacho White, Omar Ajoste and Danandro O. Barcinas.

All of them have successfully acquired the Level 1 accreditation, which means they can now assist in coaching basketball teams.

The total of 23 hours they spent in the sessions comprised of 13.75 hours to learn sports specific work and 9.25 hours of coaching principles.

BANMI president and development officer, Elias Rangamar and referees’ association president Gabriel White conducted the coaching clinic.

The course covered many aspects of basketball game that include administration, strategic planning, developing competition calendar, orientation level coaching, refereeing and introduction of mini basketball game and rules. 

Noting the success of the recently held Oceania Basketball Championships on Saipan, the BANMI officials have embarked on promotion of basketball from the grass root level all the way up to the elites. 

The coaching clinic is part BANMI’s full blast effort in enhancing the skills of the basketball aficionados and increase the quality of the said sports in the islands.
