AFTER two rounds of action, Marianas High School’s varsity and junior varsity teams have yet to taste defeat, notching their second straight win at the MHS gym on Thursday last week to lead their respective divisions in the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Volleyball League SY23-24.
MHS Varsity had their work cut out for them, but they overcame the odds in a three-set battle against Agape Christian School.
In the first set, both teams fought vigorously with high-paced exchanges. It was not until the final few possessions when MHS Varsity finally gained the upper hand with continuous pressure, both offensively and defensively, to bag the first set, 21-18.
The second set was filled yet again with back-and-forth returns with ACS committing fewer errors to clinch victory, 23-21, and force a third and final set.
But ACS fell apart in the final set due to miscommunication and faulty decision-making allowing MHS Varsity to seal the deal, 15-5, and win the match.
MHS II (Junior Varsity) also emerged victorious against ACS II.
In the opening set, MHS II routed ACS II, 21-3.
ACS II managed to shake off the jitters in the second set, but still fell short, bowing down to MHS II, 18-21.
MHS III joined the winner’s circle by outlasting Kagman High School II, 21-19, 22-20.
