3-year term for Little League’s board members

The recommendation, which was brought up by Fielders’ manager Patrick Tenorio in last month’s annual membership meeting, was approved by the league’s board members in a meeting last Friday.

Patrick Tenorio’s recommendation was generally backed by parents and other attendees in the membership meeting said the president in a phone interview.

“They wanted to see continuity in the program instead of changing officers every year,” said Juan Tenorio.

He mentioned that a series of meetings will be held between now and January for board members and the league’s managers and coaches. The meetings will provide insight on future recommendations and amendments to the league’s bylaws.

Joining Tenorio this year are Vice President Ray Yumul, Secretary Piding Tenorio, Treasurer Roman Reyes, Player Agent Ana Deleon Guerrero Flores, Chief Statistician Remy Celis, Safety Officer Robert Magofna, Managers’ Representative Yvonne Tarope, and Umpire’s Consultant James Miwata.

Under the president’s watch, the league will also seek financial alternatives to fund its future teams in off-island competitions.

“Most definitely we’re going to be very aggressive in our fundraising, knowing that the CNMI government doesn’t have money. There’s a series of activities that the Board of Directors and association will want to take up,” added Tenorio.

Due to financial limitations, the SLLB’s junior and senior divisions could not travel to their respective venues during this year’s Asia Pacific Tournament.

Tenorio also plans on talking with members of the Congress regarding tax incentives for businesses that support the program.

The president has had a decorated history with the SLLB, having managed the Tanapag Falcons in 2003. He managed the CNMI’s delegates in the 2005 Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan as well as 2007 Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine.
