30th Christmas Island Relay set on Saturday

Starting from PIC’s southern parking lot, the 14-mile relay will end at the Last Command Post in Marpi.

This is the 30th island relay run that is held annually as part of Christmas celebration according to coordinator, Elias Rangamar.

He said each team will have five runners and each should have either one male runner who is 40 years old and above, or one female, or one female who is under 16 years old.

When relay starts, each runner in the team will be at a given point of the course one mile apart. From the beginning, runners will tap and alternate each other every one mile.

To have this done, the teams are responsible to provide transportation to and from relay points.

The first three runners of the team will run 2.7 miles and one of them will take care of the two miles.

There will also be teams in junior division this time, according to Rangamar.

Usually, Rangamar said 15 to 20 teams participate in the island run.

The defending champion are the runners of the We are Legend team, who finished the course in 33 minutes and .04 seconds. Led by Matthew Mancao, We are the Legend are students of Marianas High School.
