36 women join 1st day of futsal bootcamp

Lindsay Davis, chairwoman of the Women’s Committee of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, they have divided the 36 registrants into groups to learn basic skills of futsal.

Davis explained the bootcamp has four stations or courts that trained the women in ball passing and receiving, defense, dribbling, and scrimmage.

Vanessa Pritchard, coach and trainor in the defense station said her actual training session with the women turned out to be very promising, and the women were receptive to her instructions.

The bootcamp also include lessons on the rules of futsal.

All the participants at futsal bootcamp will automatically qualify in the upcoming futsal women’s league, she added, saying the women registrants will be formed into teams.

The league will kick off on October 11 and will run until December 6 of this year.

The women’s futsal league will be held every Saturday within the said season.

NMIFA encourages women, regardless of their age and futsal skill level, to join the bootcamp to be part of the league.

“All women who are interested in football or futsal, physical fitness, and camaraderie with other women through team sports should come and join the league,” Davis said.

She added, women who have never played futsal may sign up for the bootcamp “to learn skills before teams are established.”

Futsal is also known as five aside or indoor soccer (football). It is played on a basketball style court, using a low bouncing ball.

It requires players to use their skill rather than the ball’s bounce to propel it.
