Akarri I’s Frankie Satur brings down the possession against K-Pro in an open division game of the 2nd Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club – Saipan MagaHaga Lady Eagles Group Basketball Tournament at the Gilbert C. Ada gym.
AKARRI I defeated their sibling team Akarri II, 88-74, to advance to the second round of the playoffs in the open division of the 2nd Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club – Saipan MagaHaga Lady Eagles Group Basketball Tournament at the TLS Sports Complex on Sunday.
Akarri I returned to the basketball court with a vengeance after their loss to the Compadres the day before. With their backs against the wall, they played their hearts out against Akarri II.
Akarri I had only six players, but it was enough. The offensive end was led by the scoring trio of Gerald Mamis, Elijah Ye, and Frankie Satur whose all-around performance blended perfectly, contributing 13, 12, and 20 points, respectively, to push a double-digit lead.
Confronted by Akarri I’s tough interior defense, Akarri II quickly fell behind by the end of the first half, 28-51.
But the second half was Akarri II’s time to shine as they gradually cooked up a rally. Nyrel Eugenio drew several fouls, which allowed him to chip away at the deficit from the free throw line while teammates Johnkae Raquepo and Edison Viana contributed a series of triples, eventually closing the gap.
However, Ye and Satur maintained their composure, answering every shot made to maintain a comfortable distance and secure the win for Akarri I, 88-74.
In another playoff game, CTSI/Friendly Market/DPA Car Mart eased past Flamingo Tavern, 112-88.
Akarri I and CTSI both secured their spots in the second-round crossover playoffs, which will be played over the weekend at the Ada gym.
