Francis Serrano’s three jumpers allowed Area 6 to snatch the driver’s seat of the game while center player Andy Mortos contributed his four pence to lift Area 6, 22-15.
Stolen possessions saved Area 1 & 2 & 2 during the second kanto of the match. Jeff Galvez received three quick inbound passes followed by a quick assist for eight points closing the gap to three points.
Area 6’s Serrano marked another five points to cap the first half with a three-point lead, 40-37. Both teams stepped it up a notch picking up the speed of the game.
Edward Armia’s six points was all team Area 1 & 2 needed to regain their standing in the competition. This shooting rally allowed Area 1 & 2 to tie with Area 6 at the bottom of the third quarter.
Following his older brother’s tactics Edwin Armia nailed a shot from downtown followed by an undefended layup shot. Teammate Palacios knocked four more points down in the last two minutes of the quarter.
Palacios was then fouled in the last three seconds of the quarter and was granted two charity shots. Palacios nailed the second free-throw tying with Area 6 again at 76 points all for an extra period.
Palacios’ 9 point surge in the last quarter was all Area 1 & 2 needed to foil Area 6 to clinch the coveted championship trophy, 87-84.
