Galvez needed only two sets to down his veteran opponent, winning 21-18 in set one and 21-18 in set two.
He had earlier defeated another seasoned player – Ferdie Arago – in the men’s semifinals last Thursday, winning, 21-23, 21-14, 21-14.
Dominating the singles category wasn’t enough for Galvez, who also bagged the men’s doubles class-A crown along with Rodwealth Espana. Both netters crushed Guintu and Narlou Achas, 21-7, 21-9 in the finals round and Gary Bondoja and Oh Imbog, 21-11, 21-11 in the semifinals.
The Galvez-Espana duo also dominated Aries Cordero and Cris Hilario, 21-9, 21-14 last week.
Meanwhile, Saipan BC’s Choi Hannah handed Angie Ito an upsetting loss in the women’s singles class-A finals. Hannah easily claimed the first set with a 21-13 victory and finished Ito, 22-20 in a neck-and-neck second set.
Hannah went undefeated with six wins and eliminated Malou Malasarte (21-8, 21-12) prior to the playoffs. Both she and So Young Lee however, settled for silver in the women’s doubles class-A division after falling to Berks Blazers’ Marlene Peraja and Lani Bartolome (21-19, 21-18)
Noli Santos and Espana topped the men’s singles class B1 and B2 divisions, respectively with separate wins over Bondoja and Vic Regis.
Extreme Pirates Badminton Club’s Michelle Caleon ruled the women’s singles class-B finals against Marylyn Montano (21-17, 19-21, 21-17).
The men’s doubles class-B title went to Joseph Santos and Sam Jones, who conquered Regis and Santos in two sets (21-19, 22-20).
Montano and June Padua outran Lot Abuel and Lani Bartolome (21-14, 20-21, 21-16) in the women’s doubles B1 finals.
Despite her loss, Abuel still won gold alongside Annette Quiambao in the women’s doubles B2 category.
