Camacho, Boranah clinch class-C singles titles

Camacho needed only two sets to bring down Jerome Malasarte (22-20, 21-18), while Boranah crushed Irish Pagarao (21-9, 21-12) in separate championship games.

Camacho, representing Taga Badminton Club, also defeated Mahesh Balakrishnan, 21-12, 21-12 in the men’s semifinals. Last week Wednesday, he drew an easy 21-12, 21-8 victory over Dick Koo.

Boranah cruised by the women’s semis after beating Shirley’s Badminton Club’s Roma Barlao, 21-16, 21-7.

Both Koo and Balakrishnan earned bronze in the men’s class-C division. Barlao and Cris Obaldo settled for bronze as semifinalists in the women’s category.

Malasarte still brought home gold after winning the men’s class-C doubles championship with Brandon Talania. Both Shirley’s BC players outran Dick Kho and Joel Ortega for the title with 21-15 and 21-19 wins in the first two sets.

Prior to the finals, Talania and Malasarte eliminated Eydie Uy and Rick Brien, 21-15, 21-17.

Taga Badminton Club’s Elna Curate and Rose Lazaro claimed the women’s class-C doubles title against Windy Fernandez and Obaldo (21-13, 24-22) last Sunday.

This year’s tournament drew over 100 entries in more than three men and women’s classes.
