BETO earned their first win in the second season of the Destroyers Basketball Club Friendly Game tournament by trouncing HBR, 101-78, at the TSL Sports Complex on Friday.
Beto played like a complete package with a roster fortified by height and shooting prowess.
JR Espinueva was the star of the opening half, scoring 10 straight points, including back-to-back triples. Defensively, Beto denied most second-chance attempts as they controlled the board and turned each rebound into a transition bucket on the other end with Jhomer Espinueva and Allan Hermosa joining the fray to lead comfortably by halftime, 44-36.
In the second half, HBR seemed to have found their morale as their scoring production doubled.
JR Galang, who led his team in the first half, picked up where he left off with more consistent shooting from any range. Teammates Dhey Quiambao, Ramuel Agusto and Ricky Taraya also delivered the buckets, but their rally failed to materialize as they continued to be denied second chance buckets.
With each offensive and defensive rebound, Beto easily gained the distance as defensive stops turned into easy buckets with Keith Santos highlighting the three-point line and JR Espinueva racking up more points to secure victory, 101-78.
Savory Bistro Café vs Solid Lakay
Savory Bistro Café bagged their second straight win by outlasting Solid Lakay, 91-87.
The game was filled with lead exchanges as neither team could gain proper control.
In the first half, Savory held the reins with back-to-back buckets courtesy of Bryan Natividad and Alex Ocampo. The rest of the team also chipped in their fair share.
But Solid Lakay showed more consistency and were led by Neil Ibe inside the paint while teammates Malinay and Gab Camacho supported from afar to snatch the lead by halftime, 45-37.
Savory gradually worked their way back up. Natividad and Ocampo continued to fire at will while Erwin Lumanlan, who came off the bench, fired two consecutive triples followed by three made shots by Jerome Directo to give their team the upper hand.
Solid Lakay tried to fight back but a handful of costly turnovers and missed shots only solidified Savory’s victory, 91-87.
