Paul Salalila of the Blue Jays makes his way home to score a run during a 2024 SBL Masters League game at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field in Susupe.
THE Blue Jays bagged their second win of the season by trouncing the Pirates, 16-5, in the 2024 SBL Masters League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Monday.
The Blue Jays came out swinging, notching three runs in the top of the opening inning courtesy of Marino Hiroichi and Harlan Reyes. The Pirates answered with one run contributed by Pete Tomokane with an RBI single to trail, 1-3.
Pitching may not have been a strong suit for either team, but they had strong defensive coverage from the infield and outfield.
On the offensive end, however, the Blue Jays maintained the upper hand after three innings, scoring five more runs, while the Pirates could only answer with three.
The next three innings were highlighted by defense as the Pirates, down 4-8, allowed only one run to slip by. However, they were silenced by the Blue Jays, who scored another run to lead 9-4.
In the top of the seventh, the Blue Jays erupted with seven more runs as they capitalized off the Pirates’ crucial errors. Jay Sablan hit a double that cleared the bases while teammates Jun Salalila, J-Boy Deleon Guerrero and Hiroichi joined the scoring spree to solidify their team’s lead, 16-4.
Facing a large deficit, the Pirates mounted a comeback attempt, but after scoring just one run, the Blue Jays secured the three outs needed to end the game victorious, 16-5.
