Brewers hammer Pirates

JEROME Delos Santos went 4 for 6 with two triples and a two-run home run and Pat Guerrero came in relief to pitch a two-hit shut-out as the Pacific Trading Brewers hammered the Marpac Pirates, 14-6, last Wednesday in the Saipan Major League Baseball.

From the onset, it looks like the Pirates were showing signs for a possible upset erupting for four runs in the top of the first inning on Peter Sablan and Craig Sanchez’ two-run double and single respectively for a, 4-0, lead.

But, the league leading Brewers were not about to get intimidated as they took control of the game in their first four plate appearances with outscoring the Pirates, 11-6, in the next 3 1/2 innings of play led by Francis George, Jester Garcia, and Greg C. Camacho with two RBIs apiece.

While Pat Guerrero, who came in relief of starter Joe Guerrero in the top of the fifth inning was shutting down the Pirates defensively, Delos Santos took control offensively accounting for the Brewers last three runs, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning that puts them on top, 14-6.

Guerrero then retired the Pirates side in the top of the ninth for the Brewers fourth win in five games and handed the Pirates their third loss in six outings. Greg C. Camacho went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Garcia, George, Tony C. Camacho, and Jerry Ayuyu each had two hits for the Brewers. Craig Sanchez went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Pirates in a losing effort.
