Busy schedule for Tsunami swimmers

Warm-up for all swimmers will be at 2 pm with the meet officially starting at 3pm. Tsunami swimmers are being reminded that all 2011 Guam championship participants must attend this Saturday’s meet with a practice for their fitness group after the meet.

Next week Friday and Saturday the Tsunami team will face Guam swimmers at the Hagatna pool center in Guam. The club will then host its annual end of the year party at the La Stella restaurant at the Marianas Resort Hotel. The entrance will be $6 for swimmers and friends 11 years old and below, $10 for swimmers 12 years old and above along with Tsunami family members, and $12 for friends 12 years old and above.

The Tsunami swim club is also gearing up for the upcoming 3rd International Flipper tournament. Over 60 participants from Japan have confirmed to make the three-hour flight to Saipan for the Marianas Visitors Authority’s annual signature event.

The race will allow the use of fins, snorkels, and wet suits or life jackets. There will be several age divisions: 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-and-over. Participants 18 years old and below will be entered in the junior division.

Ferries depart promptly at 4:45 a.m. on the day of the race, carrying participants, officials, and spectators to Managaha. The race starts at 6:30 a.m. with an island-style breakfast and awards ceremony at 8:30 a.m.

Entry fee for NMI residents with IDs is $25. The deadline to register is on June 17, from 4 pm to 6 pm during the orientation at the American Memorial Park’s amphitheater. Participants must be in good health with snorkeling or diving experience. Masks, snorkels, fins, and wet suits or life jackets are required.

The last thing on the calendar for the Tsunami Swim Club will be summer practices running from June 20 –July 23. A new season will start on Aug. 15.
